JC Choreography is a contemporary dance company based in Liège. It produces and develops the artistic ideas of young Liege choreographer Justine Copette.
I have a degree in performing arts from the Academy of Contemporary Dance in Budapest, Hungary (2019) and in management from the IHECS in Brussels (2021). I have been running my dance company JC Choreography since 2019. I perform regularly in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. I have worked and performed with various choreographers such as Willy Doner, Isabelle Schadt, Jan Martens, Marcela Giesche, Marco Torrice, Tijen Lawton, Christopher Evans, Emanuel Gat , Roberto Zappala,... I initially created my first projects when I wasn't offered any, so as not to stop dancing. Nor could I find anything that suited me within the existing cultural landscape. Still thirsty and determined not to stop dancing, I decided to self-produce and create my own opportunities and experiences. I found new fulfillment and satisfaction in developing a few projects that I could work on and see through from start to finish. Reassured about my ability to see a job through to completion, I'm determined and always on the lookout to develop my potential. I decided to launch a niche project, which was to create my own dance company. To make up for my lack of experience in this field, I went back to school to study cultural and event management. It was at this point that I created JC Choreography ASBL. My approach is to create a structure that can welcome, help and produce artists who are just starting out in their careers. My motive is to believe in each artist's project by involving them in my own projects, so that they can benefit from everything I've already put in place in terms of production, creation and the JC Choreography network. The collaboration must be reciprocal, as each artist will be able to express himself and bring me his own knowledge and experience. My primary aim is to encourage exchange between artists and respect for each one's singular, personal expression. I believe in collective work, both between dancers and with other artists from different backgrounds. The collective way of starting work always begins with an improvisation session, so that the idea can mature through a collaborative process. I also want to associate my approach and my motive with the accessibility of my projects to the general public. |
